Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in Niru Village, Luoji District, Zhongdian County (now called "Shangri-La" County), Yunnan Province. And it was named by Yunnan Geological Bureau in 1990.

Lithology and Thickness

Lower section is clastic rock interbedded with basalt volcanic tuff. Upper section is limestone. Thickness is greater than 1919m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It has conformity contact with the underlying Xiabulun Fm (= Bulun Fm in this Lexicon usage)

Regional extent

The Formation is mainly distributed in Zhongdian, Yunnan. The Jiedi Fm is coeval limestone but with a lower mudstone (not tuff) in the same Zhongdian County.

Fossils

Bivalves: Neoschizodus laevigatus, Bakevellia costata, Plagiostoma cf. bourreti, Leptochondria subparadoxica, Costatoria sp., C. goldfussi mansuyi.

Anisian-Ladinian; but adjusted for graphic purposes to show Jiedi Fm (which has NO lower tuff) in same county.
